OBIT - Died at his home on North Main Street on Saturday, Jan 17, 1915, John Barnett, of age's infirmities who would have been 80 years old on the 8th day of February next. He was born and raised in Green County and spent most of his long life here. He enlisted in Company F of the 4th Kentucky Infantry and served faithfully as a Lieutenant until the close of the Civil War, after which he was a prominent stock trader and farmer and one of the wealthiest citizens of the county. During his later years he was a resident of Greensburg and a member of the board of directors of the People's Bank.
In 1875 he wed Miss Sunie Barnett, a daughter of the late William T. Barnett and his wife Mrs Nannie Barnett. She survives him together with the following relatives: a sister Mrs Emily Green of Louisville and her three daughters, one who is Mrs Kate Owens wife of Col Jordan Owens of Louisville, a half sister Mrs L.B. Weston of Chicago Ill and her daughter; one brother, Louis Barnett of Duluth Minn; a nephew James Barnett of Harrodsburg Ky and one son Elza...and many friends and relatives.
Funeral was conducted by Rev W.R. Waggoner...
Pallbearers were Messers. J. McV Shreve, Levi W. Moore, Woodson Vaughn, Goalder Jones, J.C. Cowherd and J.F. Cowherd. The remains were escorted to the old Barnett Graveyard near Camp Ground and laid to rest there beside several generations of the family.
