Herbert T. Flippin, 89, Sugar Creek, died Feb. 3, 1990, at the Independence Regional Health Center. He was born in Sedalia, Mo., and lived in Independence before moving to Sugar Creek in 1984. Mr. Flippin was an open hearth operator for Sheffield Steel for 25 years until he retired in 1946. He was a member of the United Steel Workers of America. Survivors include two sons, Charles T. Flippin, Devine, Texas, and Herbert L. "Bud" Flippin, Omaha, Neb.; two daughters, Velma I. Stewart of the home and Mary J. Cook, Kansas City; 12 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Mount Washington Cemetery.
