FROM THE SALT LAKE HERALD, 1872-06-09
Sad and Fatal Accident.-- Yesterday morning Mrs. Eliza Whitehead, wife of James Whitehead who works in the Wasatch Woolen Mills of Smoot & Co., went down to the creek to wash some boxes, and not returning in reasonable time search was instituted for her, when it was found that a part of the bank where she had been standing had caved in, forcing the conclusion that she had fallen in and been swept away by the stream. The search was continued, and about half a mile below where the cave occurred, the body of the unfortunate woman was found. What makes the matter still sadder is, as we understand, that Mrs. Whitehead was about to become a mother for the first time, and she and her unborn offspring were thus accidentally hurried into eternity. The funeral will take place today at 2 o'clock p.m. We extend our sincerest sympathy to the husband thus sadly and suddenly bereaved.
