Mr. Charlie E. Smith, age 71, died early Tuesday at his residence. He was a native and lifelong resident of Bulloch County. Mr. Smith retired after many years of working with the International Association of Heat and Frost Insulators and Asbestos Workers. He served for four years in the Air Force and for two years in the Navy. Mr. Smith enjoyed antique car shows and fishing.

Surviving are three sisters, Joyce S. Barber of Statesboro, Janice Dikilato of Smyrna, Ga., and Sue Cook of Hampton, S.C.; one brother, Jarrell F. Smith of Savannah; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service for Mr. Smith will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Hodges-Moore Funeral Home with the Rev. James Floyd Bland officiating. Burial will be in Upper Mill Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
