Thomas is the third son of George (1768-1812) and Louisa (1768-1802) GOSWICK of North Carolina. In December, 1836, Thomas married Arrena Elizabeth PRUETT in Union county, South Carolina. The marriage resulted in eleven children, of which two and possibly a third son lost their lives for the Confederate cause.

Thomas and Elizabeth both died on the same day. Elizabeth had been ailing and then Thomas passed away later in the day. Both were interred in the same grave. Their deaths occurred about the time of the Battles of New Hope Church and Powder Creek, near Dallas, as Sherman's Army advanced from Tennessee toward it's objective of Atlanta.
