Amanda was born about 1780 in Hamden CT, near New Haven. She was the 6th of the 8 children of Jason & Mary (Hitchcock) Bradley. She married Medad Todd in Hamden about 1799 and they had Uri (1800), Lewis (1803) and Louisa (1804). Lewis died young and Medad died in 1805.

In 1810 Amanda married Samuel Chapman and in 1812 Emily was born.

The 1810 census shows Samuel as head of household. Samuel seems to have died before 1820 because in the1820 census Amanda is head of household with a woman of about her age living with her. In the 1830 census a young man in his 20s is living in her household. Amanda died in 1849 in Hamden.
