Ruth Fairbank, 84, of Columbia died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2001, at Terrace Retirement Community.

Services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 28, in the living room at Terrace Apartments, 1408 Business Loop 70 W. She donated her remains to the University of Missouri-Columbia Anatomy Department. Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Funeral Service, 22 N. Tenth St.

Ms. Fairbank was born July 20, 1917, in Joliet, Ill., to Kenneth Whitney and Nettie Vivian Pendleton Duncan.

She earned a bachelor's degree in early childhood development from Iowa State University. She had worked as a bank teller supervisor. She moved to Columbia 11 years ago from St. Charles, Ill. She was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Survivors include three sons, Donn Fairbank of Naperville, Ill., Paul Fairbank of St. Louis, and Tod Fairbank of Aurora, Ill.; five daughters, Anafred Fessler and Lois Walker, both of Columbia, Carolyn Garbacz of Phoenix, Nancy Dorsey of St. Charles, Ill., and Robin Purcell of Arlington, Mass.; a brother, Donald Duncan of Arden Hills, Minn.; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Duncan.

Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association, Mid-Missouri Chapter, 1121 Business Loop 70 E., Columbia, Mo., 65201.
