Janet Riess Brook, 94 years old of Antioch, IL passed away Friday, April 13, 2012 at her home. She was born January 12, 1918 in Oak Parkl, IL the daughter of the later Harry John and Alice Irene (Lowrey)Riess. Her family had a summer home on Channel Lake since 1911. Janet was an avid, lifelong Chicago Bears fan and enjoyed playing bridge and gardening. She was a member of the Lakes Region Historical Society, a volunteer for the American Cancer Society, and past president of the Antioch Woman's Club. Janet adored the color red. She graduated from Beloit College in 1939 where she earned a BA in Geology, and was affiliated with Delta Delta Delta Sorority. Janet also met her future husband while attending Beloit College. From 1939 through 1941, she worked as a store tour guide for Marshall Fields department store. On May 24, 1941 she married Wiliam E. Brook in River Forest, IL and he preceded her in death June 22, 1992.
Survivors include her daughter, Ainsley (Robert) Wonderling of Lake Villa, IL; her sister, Donna Abt of Arlington Heights, IL; nieces, Christine Abt, Karen (David) Clarbour, and Julie (Nick DeLeeuw) and nephews, David Abt and Bill(Colleen Downey) Riess; and a sister-in-law, Bobbie Riess. In addition to her parents and husband, Janet was preceded in death by a daughter Suraya Brook in 1966 and a brother, Morton Riess in 2011.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Monday, April 16, 2012 at the STRANG FUNERAL HOME OF ANTIOCH, 1055 Main St. (Rte. 83) Antioch, IL with Rev. Barbara Good officiating. Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Antioch. Visitation will be from 1-5 PM Sunday at the funeral home. INFO 847-395-4000.
