Death of Daniel Becker

Mr. Becker was born at Half Moon-on-the-Hudson on May 25th 1820, and when only a few years old was brought by his father, Albert Becker, to Lafayette. At the age of 15 young Becker went to New York, where he learned the jewelry business in all its details. He came to Syracuse in 1840 and started in the business of making gold pens, which he followed for three or four years, when he formed a partnership with his father and conducted the jewelry business thereafter. The firm was known as D. Becker & Company. The business was afterward conducted by Mr. Becker and his brother James. For almost thirty-five years Mr. Becker has been a member of the firm of Becker & Lathrop. The condition of Mr. Becker's health in the early sixties was the occasion of his living for four years at South Bay and while there he served a term as Supervisor of the town of Cicero.
On April 10th 1856 Mr. Becker married Miss Elmira E. Cook of Vernon Center, Oneida county. Six sons survive him. They are Daniel C. and Gilbert L. Becker of Brooklyn and George C., Clarence J., Charles L. and Harry R. Becker of this city. He also leaves a brother and a sister, James Becker and Mrs. Silas Park, both of Lafayette.
