Briant was a horse racer and trader, and moved around and missed most of the Federal Census. Some Austins think that he died in the War Between the States. There is no apparent record of his place and date of death. The family seemed to have lived near Blevins and Belfalls, among their relatives, at the time of his death and remarriage of the widow at nearby Waco.

A copy of the original Bible record of births, of Briant and his family, is in posession of Dave Boatman.
