Alva Burkett, 88, of 215 Helen, died at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Golden Age Manor
Nursing Home after a long illness. He was born in Burkett, Ind., on Oct. 14,
1888, and had lived here 40 years. He retired from School City in 1954, and
prior to that time was a farmer. He was married to Carrie Haines, on April 3,
1920. She died Dec. 3, 1959. He then was married to Ida M. Stafford in
Mishawaka on Feb. 18, 1968. She died in 1972.

Surviving are four step-daughters, Mrs. Paul Praklet and Mrs. George Hayden of
Mishawaka, Mrs. Robert Davis of South Bend and Mrs. Albert DeWitte of
Edwardsburg; three step-sons, John Stafford of Tampa, Fla., Leo Stafford of
Linton, Ind. and A.D. Stafford of Glendive, Mont.; 24 grandchildren, and 10
great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. today in the Bubb Funeral Chapel, where
services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday. Rev. Lowell Hutsell, pastor of the River
Park Tabernacle, South Bend, will officiate, and burial will be in Chapel Hill
Memorial Gardens.
