Asphyxiation by drowning
Drowned in the Potomac river
The burial lot was purchased by Winfield's sister-in-law, Sarah Carlisle on July 14 - this was 5 days later than the death date. Delay assumed to be that his body was not found until then.
Appears that Winfield was never married.
