Schuyler Coe Brandt was the 11th and last child born to Heinrich Wilhelm (Henry William) Brandt and Ruth Coe. He attended the Lawrenceville Academy in Trenton, NJ and graduated from Hamilton College in Clinton, NY in 1889. He established a fund at Hamilton College which afforded young men w/o financial means to attend there. His academic and social memberships were Phi Beta Kappa, Masons, Chicago City Club, the Oak Park Club, and the River Forest Tennis Club, all of which were in the Chicago area. He was a republican alderman of Binghamton, NY in the 1890's, serving as chairman of the committee of finance and education. He owned and was president of the Brandt & Stickley Furniture Co. (along w/ brother-i-l Charles Stickley) in Chicago, IL and Binghamton, NY. He married Salie Eunice Wilbur of Washington, DC and Savannah, Ga in April 1895. They had 4 children: Schuyler Buell Brandt, Sr.; Aaron Wilbur Brandt; Mary Eunice "Judy" Brandt; and Ruth Coe Brandt.
