Abraham was born to Abraham and Mary Ann Bolton in 1833 in PA. He had at least 6 siblings named Uriah,Philip,David,Mary, Sarah and Martha. Sometime between 1845 and 1850 Abraham Sr died, and not long after, the family moved to the Columbiana Co, Ohio area to farm.

Abraham grew up there in Ohio, and when the Civil War broke out, he and his brothet Phillip enlisted in the Union Army. This was on 22 April 1861 in Ohio in CO H 19 Infantry. They served for 4 months. On the 13 August 1862 the brothers re-enlisted again, the 11 Regiment,Co C, of the Ohio Volunteer Infantry. They both served until the end of the war and were both wounded during different battles. Abraham at Rocky Face Ridge at the battle of Buzzard Roost, GA on 25 Feb 1864. He remained in the hospital at Camp Dennison, OH until 21 June, 1864. He returned to the 11th Regiment in Co E. and served until the end of the war. Philip was wounded in Sept 1863 at Chickamonga, GA and although he served until the end of the war, he was plagued by his war injuries for the rest of his life. They both were discharged on 18th of June 1865 in Washington DC, and returned to their home town in OH. They rejoined the other family members there.
Abraham married Elvina Craft on the 4th of April 1868, there in Columbiana, OH and they had 4 children. Only one survived Ella Mae, who was born in 1871. Nathan was born in 1873, but died before 1880. The other two children are unknown.

The family moved to Philadelphia in 1880 where Abraham was a machinist and laborer. In 1892 daughter Ella married Thomas E Harper and had at least 5 children and tragically died in 1899 at the age of 27.

Abraham and Elvina continued to live in Philadelphia. Elvina died in Feb 1910, after which Abraham moved back to live with his wife's brother Nathan Craft and his family in Columbiana, and other Royer family who lived nearby. Abraham died on Christmas Day 1911 outliving his wife, all 4 of his children, and 2 grandchildren. He was 78 years old.
