Martha Alexander Pharis, 82, passed away Monday, April 30, 2012 at Memorial Health. Mrs. Pharis was born in Manassas, Georgia on February 13, 1930 to the late Allen Lovett and Susie Mae Alexander. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Rincon and the Harvesters Sunday School Class where she served for many years as co-teacher. Before her children were born, she worked for Union Camp for 10 years. Later, she worked and retired from the Effingham County Board of Education. Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Howard T. Pharis; sons, Tom (Kay) and Charles (Vicki); grandsons, Joshua (Amie) and Andrew; great-grandson, Walker; sister, Dr. Bertha Usher; and a number of nieces and nephews. Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday in the chapel. Honorary pallbearers will be the Harvesters Sunday School Class. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens. Remembrances may be given to First Baptist Church of Rincon, 201 E. 6th Street, Rincon, GA 31326.
