Conway, July 9 - Fred Brown, 70, died tonight in Franklin County Public Hospital. He was a retired painter. He was born on Aug. 13, 1885, in Pittsfield, son of Albert and Kate Brown [sic]. He made his home in Conway the past 50 years and was an active member of the local barbershop quartet. Survivors include his wife, the former Mabel Bond, one son Wayland Brown of Greenfield, four grandchildren, one great-grandson, one sister Mrs. Elva McCarthy of Needham, and one half sister Mrs. Harry Pease of Conway. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in the United Church in Conway. Burial will be in Howland Cemetery. There will be no visiting hours. The McCarthy funeral home is in charge.
