Bea was a gentle, loving, caring wise woman in the truest sense. She peacefully passed into the arms of God April 29, 2004. Her children and caregivers were at her side.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, May 6th at 2 p.m. at Bidwell Memorial Presbyterian Church.
Bea was born in Cherokee, Iowa on February 10, 1917, the eldest child of Lotus I. Thompson and Christopher Thomas Bryant. Her father died when Bea was three years old and soon after her mother moved to southern California with her two young daughters. During her formative years, Bea was also raised by her beloved stepfather, Arthur Ellis.
Bea attended schools in the Los Angeles and Ventura areas. She graduated from Ventura High School and attended Ventura Jr. College where she met her future husband. Petite brunette Beatrice B. Bryant and tall blond Myrrell D. Boll were married in 1937, in Ventura, Calif. They remained in Ventura County until 1952 when they moved to Biggs and in 1986 they retired and moved to Chico.
Bea's life revolved around her family. She took her family to church, taught Sunday School and chaperoned the church youth activities. She was active in PTA and as a room mother. She was also a 4-H leader.
Her daughters and son learned the skills needed to become self-sufficient people while at her side at home. Through her they also came to love music, beauty and nature. The friends of her children and grandchildren always knew they were welcome in her home.
After her children left home, Bea returned to school, riding the school bus to Yuba College. She also was very active with the United Presbyterian Women. She held many offices in UPW including some district offices. During that time she became librarian for the Gridley Presbyterian Church. When the position of Librarian of the Biggs Branch of the Butte County Library opened Bea applied and was accepted, thus began a new career. "Mrs. Boll, the library lady" became a very important person to most of the children in Biggs. Her gentle helping hand and her love of reading and learning was passed on to hundreds of children during the 14 years she was the librarian.
During retirement, Bea and Myrrell traveled extensively both in their motor home and abroad. They also remained active in the lives of their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bea continued to read and study her Bible throughout her life. When her vision failed, she enjoyed listened to "Talking Books".
Bea and Myrrell were married 62 years until his death in 1998. Her parents and her sister Lynn Shepard also predeceased Bea. She is survived by her son, Jim Boll of Oroville; her daughters and sons-in-law, Peg and Don Ramsdell of Paradise and Northport, Mich. and Pat and Bill Burleson of Gridley; her sister and brother-in-law, Vivian and Bud Brigham of Camarillo, Calif. Also surviving are five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and two step-great-great-grandchildren.
