Sampson George Farnsworth was born in Woodstock, Vermont to Abijah Farnsworth and Betsy Peck. His father died in 1812 so I would think that he really never knew his father very well because he was so small when he died.
His mother remarried to Allen Carpenter and in his Rev. War Pension, Sampson is mentioned. 1820 Rev.War Pension application for Allen Carpenter, 2nd husband of Betsey Farnsworth (Sampson's mother). Mention's
"his wife's 12 year old son named Sampson Farnsworth."
