She grew up in Dodge City and graduated from Dodge City High School and Dodge City Community College.
On July 17, 1945 she married Thomas W. "Tommy" Council in Dodge City. He preceded her in death on April 8, 1999.
She was a lifelong member of the First Christian Church of Dodge City and taught 2's and 3's Sunday School Class for 25 years and worked with Toddlers Class after that.
Evelyn is survived by five children, Nancy (Clyde) Goff of Amarillo, Texas; Jerry Council of Ottawa; Janet (Joe) Kulbiski of Manhattan; Steve (JoAda) Council of Alexandria, Kentucky; Jim (Nadine) Council of Augusta; three sisters, Lourine Rogers of Haysville; Pauline Crane and Deloris Archer both of Dodge City; 11 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a brother Fred Diehl.
Funeral service will be held at First Christian Church on Thursday, May 3, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. with Mr. Clyde Goff presiding. Burial will follow at Greencrest Cemetery in Dodge City. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 2, 2012 from Noon to 8:00 P.M.. Memorials are suggested to Presbyterian Manor of the Plains in care of the funeral home.
