Long Resident of County Dies Here on Monday

Albert Millard Porter, 77, former resident of Gaston, died at his home in Hillsboro Monday and funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon from Donelson & Sewell chapel with interment at Forest View cemetery at Forest Grove. Rev. D. E. Norse conducted the services.

Mr. Porter was born February 4, 1870, at New London, Wisconsin. He came to Oregon in 1872 and had been a resident of Oregon ever since. Appointed postmaster at Gaston I 1906, he served in that capacity for many years. During World War I he owned and operated the Gaston Feed Mill.

On December 30, 1896, he was married to Anna Bates, who died in 1939. To this union, one child was born, Inez Porter Johnson of Bethany, who survives him.

On November 6, 1941, he was married to Mrs. Mary J. Ward. In addition to his widow and daughter, he is survived by the following step-children: Colonel James B. Ward, Nuremburg, German; Mrs. Sadie McBurney, Gaston, and Mrs. Ethel Lung, Portland. A sister, Mrs. Lillian Buxton, of Long Beach, Cal., also survives.

Mr. Porter was a member of the Wapato Lodge No. 40 of Gaston of which he was a life member, Hillsboro Rebekah lodge and the Gaston Congregational church. He served as church clerk for many years.
