Columbiana - Doris M. Grossen, age 92, of Columbiana, died on Saturday, June 13, 2015 at Whispering Pines Village,
Columbiana.

She was born on March 30, 1923 in New Springfield, a daughter of the late John and Irene Gebhardt Riesen.

Doris was a member of the Springfield Twp. Historical Society, Columbiana Chapter #428 OES and the Emmanuel Lutheran Church of New Springfield. She had been active in the Faith Circle and had participated in various other activities in her church that included visiting with folks who could no longer get out.

She worked in the New Springfield Post Office for thirty years, retiring as Postmaster in 1986. She had previously worked at the Draft Board during WWII.

She and her husband Ray belonged to many different car clubs that included the Western Reserve Model A Club, Vintage Chevrolet Club of America, Willys-Overland-Knight Registry, Tri-State Antique Auto Club and the Tri County 4 Wheelers. The two of them enjoyed many years of traveling and vacationing in their antique cars.

Doris also enjoyed growing flowers, watching birds and attending the monthly luncheons with her class mates of 1941. Mostly, she enjoyed spending her time with her family and her grandchildren.

She is survived by a son, John (Bobbi) Grossen
of Salem, a daughter, Leni (Dick) Cornell of New Springfield and three grandsons, John Jay (Elizabeth Humphreys) Grossen II, Aaron (Sunny Nixon)Cornell and Jeremy (Holley Madderra) Cornell.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Grossen, whom she married on June 4, 1946, a daughter, Janene Grossen, her brother, Armin Riesen and a granddaughter, Janene Rae Grossen.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, June 28, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. at Emmanuel Lutheran Church of New Springfield with Pastor Kari Lankford officiating.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 28, 2015 from 1:30 p.m.-3:00 p.m. at the church.

Burial will be at the Lake Park Cemetery, Youngstown.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana.

Her family would like to thank the staff, nurses and caregivers at Whispering Pines and the folks at All Caring Hospice for their wonderful care for mom. We couldn't have done it without you!
