Pvt. Daniel Linder was the son of James and Catherine Geyer Linder [1850 census for Canaan Twp, Morrow Co., Oh] Daniel married Emma Eliza Dean on June 12th 1859 in Morrow Co., Ohio [Marriage Certificate in WPF (Widows Pension File)]. Daniel and Emma had had two children and one on the way [1860 census and WPF] at the time of his enlistment. Daniel Linder was a private in Co. C of the Ohio 96th Volunteer Infantry. He was shot in the head and died instantly during the battle of Arkansas Post on Jan 11, 1863 during a charge at enemy fortifications [Widow's pension file letter from his company commander Capt. Levi Reichelderfer written two days his death in battle – see posting to the right for the letter.

Here is Daniel and his wife Emma in the 1860 census with one infant child Mary Catherine. She was born 29 Oct 1859 and died on 14 Mar 1862.
