German-Jewish singer and cabaret performer, stage and film actress; daughter of famous composer Eduarde Künneke. She was most famous for singing and recording the song "Sing, Nightingale, Sing," from the 1941 film Auf Wiedersehn, Franziska! Among her many other films, notable are Der Fünfminutenvater (1951, Austria) and Verlorene Melodie (1952, also Austria). In the post-war years of her career she achieved a kind of cult status among the younger generation of German film buffs, and she continued to act in films until the year of her death in 2001.
