Alice Anderson of Canby, MN passed away on September10, 2016 at Amery, Wisconsin. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at the Zahrbock Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Levi Bollerud will officiate at the service. Burial will be in Faith Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour before the service on Wednesday. Alice Anne Anderson died in Amery, Wisconsin under Hospice care on September 10, 2016. Alice was born March 12, 1939 in Canby, MN to Albert K. Anderson and Caroline Marie Hoihjelle. She became a child of God through baptism on May 14, 1939 at St. Stephens Lutheran Church, Canby, MN with the Sunday School classes as her witnesses. Hers was the first class to confirm their faith at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, Canby. Her love of children developed while baby-sitting, teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. Alice attended Canby Public Schools, graduating in 1957. She matriculated to Dakota State University, formerly called General Beadle State College, Madison, SD graduating from a teacher training program in 1960 and completing a Bachelor’s degree in Education in 1964. Alice taught elementary school in Lake Benton and Clarkfield, MN. She was an active member of the Minnesota Kindergarten Association and continued professional development at Mankato State University earning a Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education in 1984. The American Lutheran Church called Alice to teach grades three through six at a boarding school for missionary children in Wau, in the highlands of Papua New Guinea from 1984-1986. Elementary children of military personnel received instruction from Alice as she taught for USA Department of Defense Schools in Bayreuth and Wurzburg, Germany from 1986 until in 2004. While in Germany she performed as a puppeteer for Kids on the Block, performing shows that addressed diverse issues critical for young pupils. Upon retirement, Alice returned to her childhood home in Canby, MN. Alice had a wonderful singing voice and played piano and organ until her health prohibited performance. She traveled the world and marveled at God's creation. She collected many artifacts while visiting countries in West and East Europe, Asia, Africa, North and South America, and Australia. By doing what she loved, she awakened and inspired the minds and hearts of her students.
