J.C. was born December 17, 1950 to Peat and Dolores (Creel) Abbott in San Antonio, Texas. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. J.C. worked in general construction. He enjoyed wood working and making leather goods.
He is survived by his daughter, Renee Abbott of Henrietta; four brothers, Charles Abbott of Bellevue, Timothy Abbott of Wichita Falls, Robert Corneilous of Springtown, and Harvey Scott of Dalhart; four sisters, Donna Cantwell of Henrietta, Anna Martel Gill of Vashti, Elaine Rodgers of Henrietta, and Tammy Sodan of Henrietta; numerous nieces and nephews.
