I suspect the Mr. Taylor may be a relative of John Price. Price came across the plains with W. D. Martin at the age of 16. Per history from my Grandmother he and W. D. remained close throughout the years and at one time had adjoining ranches on the Llano Seco.
John Prices parents were gone before he headed for California so perhaps an uncle or cousin came with him. Prices mother was Winifred Taylor Price.
Absolutely no proof..but still looking.
UPDATE:
Sept. 12, 2023-I believe I just found Mr. Taylors family...I found his probate. In the probate it lists his wife as Mrs. WINIFRED TAYLOR. His sons were Thomas B. Taylor and William H. Taylor residents of Colusa County. He also had a daughter, Mrs. Frances McBride of Missouri.
John R. Price and Thomas B. Taylor purchased some of Mr. Taylors items according to the sale papers of the estate. J. B. Taylor also presented bills including one for the coffin. That was the only reference to a funeral.
This probate was huge. Many Acres of owned land and leased land. Lots of money owed and paid. In the end the widow received a little over $300 ($100 paid to her/month until estate was settled) and each child a little over $100.
No other information about his funeral or why he was buried here. I can only assume that because of his relationship with John Price perhaps this was convenient .
Have not found an obituary.
I suspect that he was related to John Rupert Price through Johns mother Winnifred Taylor Price. Johns mother and father died in 1852 and 1857 in Tennessee leaving John an orphan and only 16 when he joined up with the same train as William David Martin. W. D. and John Price remained friends throughout the years and had ranches on the Parrott Grant until it was found that the land was actually a land grant owned by Parrott.
I have been unable to find information about Winnifred Taylor Prices family.
