Harry E. Stone

Harry E. Stone, 80, 1234 Avenue E, died at 1:05 a.m.,Sunday, January 12, in Sacred Heart Hospital. He had been ill three years.

Mr. Stone was born September 7, 1894, in St. Joseph, Missouri. He spent most of his life in Fort Madison and was a retired conductor for the Santa Fe Railroad.

He was a World War I veteran, earning a purple heart.

On May 16, 1923, in Keokuk, Iowa, he married Bernadine Peterman, who survives.

Mr. Stone was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Wayne R. Stone, Morton, Illinois; a daughter, Mrs. John(Linda) Van Stone, Columbia, Missouri; four brothers, William Stone Los Angeles, California, and George and Donald Stone, both of Ashtabula, Ohio, and Kemper Stone, Newark, Delaware; and three grandchildren, Scott Stone, Jill Van Stone, and Michael Van Stone.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters. His parents were William and Laura Pile Stone.

Funeral services will be at 11:30a.m. Tuesday in St. Mary's Church. The Rev. Drake Shafer will officiate. Burial will be in the Soldiers Circle of Oakland Cemetery.

The body is at the King-Lynk Funeral Home, where the rosary will be recited at 8 this evening.

A memorial is being established with the American Respiratory Association.
