Robert P. Bruch, 79, of Independence, Mo., passed away April 25, 2012. A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, April 29, at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence. Services at 2 p.m. Monday, April 30, at the Stone Church Congregation, 1012 W. Lexington Avenue, Independence. Burial will follow at Mound Grove Cemetery. Robert was born June 9, 1932, in Genoa, Colo., to Page John Bruch and Velma Irene (Milem) Bruch. He had served in the U.S. Army in the 82nd Airborne as a paratrooper. Robert was a 30 year appointee in the Community of Christ (current member of South Crysler Congregation), and served as Center Stake President (and many other regions), President of Independence Neighborhood Councils, and President of Outreach International. His career also included six years of teaching and 15 years in real estate. He was currently serving on the Board of Trustees of Graceland University, and served many other boards and organizations through the years. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Larissa Bruch; two grandchildren, Owen Bruch and Nicole Mendoza; and three sisters, Harriet Fern Bruch, Marjorie Mae Bruch and Jessie M. Weldon. Robert is survived by his wife, Patty Bruch; four children, Gerald Bruch, Russel Bruch, Janelle Dane, and Tava Smiley; seven grandchildren, Melissa Smith and husband Wade, Keli Bruch, Nathan Bruch, Harrison Bruch, Renee Bruch, Alex Brubaker and Shawn Dane; one sister, Helen Pearson Smith and husband Luther; and two brothers, William B. Bruch (twin) and wife Virginia, Ronald G. Bruch and wife Caryl. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Graceland University or Outreach International.
