Sunday being near the anniversary of the separation of the family of the late Mr. A. B. Barkley thirty-nine years ago it was decided to hold a family reunion at the old homestead fifteen miles from Georgetown on the old Eagle Creek pike.
Here in 1861 Mr. A. B. Barkley moved with his wife and six children: John, Frank, A.B. Jr., George, Robert and Mollie.
Mr. Barkley build a large mill on this place and a distillery. The distillery was burned, but old mill still stands. Mr. Barkley was one of the most prosperous and influential men of this section and was looked upon by all as a leader in all causes, he thought to be right. Then the war came on and in a political difficulty Mr. Barkley, being a red-hot rebel, was killed by James Robinson, a Yankee. This was January 1, 1863. The oldest child was then but 16 years of age.
The mother died of typhoid fever five years later and the children became separated, and for these past thirty-nine years they had not all been together.
On last Sunday morning at 9 o'clock they all started for the old homestead, taking their dinner with them, and there, in the shadow of the old mill, where they had all played together and been so happy in the years gone by, they unloaded their baskets and recalled the many incidents which happened in childhood's happy days.
Those present were:
Hon. John L. Barkley and wife, of Lexington
Frank Barkley and wife, formerly of Chicago, but now of Lexington
George Barkley and wife, of Lexington
Mr. A. B. Barkley and wife and little son, A.B. Jr.
John A. Henning and wife and two sons, Harry and John
(Mrs. Henning was Miss Mollie Barkley)

In thirty-nine years only four deaths have occurred in the family, Father, mother, brother Robert and little Cornelia Henning, daughter of Mrs. John A. Henning.
There have been five marriages in the family. The four brothers and Mrs. Henning.
John L. Barkley has two children: Dr. A. H. Barkley, of Lexington and Mrs. R. H. Carter, of Cincinnati.
Mr. A. B. Barkley has three children, George being the oldest.
Miss Nep Barkley, daughter of A.B., married Mr. Rowan Jones, of New Castle, Ky.,
Mrs. Henning has three children: George, of Philadelphia; Harry and John.
Mrs. Rowan Jones has the only two great grandchildren of the late A. B. Barkley.
They all returned from the old homestead Sunday afternoon and took supper with Mrs. Henning.
