Ovel Gene Mays was born April 6, 1945 in Rushville, Indiana and departed this life Sunday, October 14, 2007 at the St. Joseph Hospital in Berea, at the age of 62. He was the son of the late Roy Mays & Dorothy (Rader) Mays.
Gene is survived by three children- Marlene (Mays) Miller & Dale of Mt. Vernon, Timothy Mays & Trish of Berea and Tony Mays & Crystal of Beattyville. He is also survived by two brothers- Roy P. 'Doc' Mays & Judy and Ronnie Mays & Lisa all of McKee and by three sisters- Kathlene Rose Richardson & Burgoyne of McKee, Rose Kelley of Walton and Gladys Robinson & Wayne of London. He was blessed with seven grandchildren- Heather Lear & Dustin, Amanda Kerns & John, Joshua, Chanta, Chandi, Chyanda & Nieca Mays and by one great-grandson,- Austin Kerns.
In addition to his parents, Gene was also preceded in death by a son- Danny Mays; by three brothers- Rutledge, Denny & Shelby Mays and by a sister- Nettie Gray.
Gene was a member of the Baptist Faith.
Funeral service was held 2:00 PM Wednesday, October 17, 2007 at Lakes Funeral Home with Bro. Brent Gilbert officiating. Burial followed in the Mays Family Cemetery. Lakes Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
