James Henry Poplett, 61 years old, a prominent resident of Peoria Heights, died at his residence, 3712 Prospect road early Wednesday morning. Mr Poplett had served as village trustee for one term of two years.
He was born in Peoria county, Richwoods township, near the Mt Hawley airport, the son of William and Clarissey (Clarissa) Clifton Poplett, July 26, 1872. He was educated in the public schools of this city, and was married to Miss Henrietta Simmons at Peoria Heights, October 20, 1903.
Mr Poplett was a member of the Peoria Heights Congregational church and was very active in its men's organization. He was also a member of Temple lodge No. 46, A.F & A.M, Peoria Consistory, Scottish Rite, and Mohammed temple, A.A.O.N.M.B. He was a past patron of Peoria Heights chapter, No. 933, Order of Eastern Star, having served in that capacity for two term,s in 1929 and 1933. He held membership in Charter Oak camp, Modern Woodmen of America. Mr Poplett was employed as a carpenter for the Illinois Power and Light company.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs Henrietta Simmons Poplett, three sisters, Mrs Emma Stahlman, Peoria Heights, and the Misses Anna and Mayme Poplett, Peoria, also by three brothers, Wyley Poplett, Guthrie, Illlinois, Albert Poplett, Gibson City, Illinois and Ervin Poplett, Peoria heights, Illinois.
The body was taken to the Gelium chapel. Funeral arrangements will be announced later.
