Civil War Union Soldier. He enlisted as a Private in Company I, 10th New Jersey Volunteer Infantry on October 21, 1861. After serving nearly three years in the field, he re-enlisted on January 3, 1864. He participated in the June 1, 1864 Battle of Cold Harbor, Virginia, where he was mortally wounded. Brought with other wounded men to New York City, he died at the DeCamp United States Army General Hospital on David's Island, New York Harbor, on July 1, 1864.
