FRITZ ERPS, SR., of Silver Cliff, CO, was born in Westcliffe, CO, to John and Anna Erps who came from Germany to settle in Custer County. He grew up on a ranch in Westclifffe and attended Colfax School. Fritz was married to Marie Fuchs on Oct. 2 1928, moved to Silver Cliff and lived there until his death.
He was employed fro 42 years by the Custer County Road Department as a grader operator and later was Road Supervisor until his retirement. Many of the existing roads in Custer County were built by Fritz. In previous years, he had worked in some of the mines in this area. He loved to fish and could fix anything. Mr. Erps was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Westcliffe, CO.
He is survived by his wife, Marie Erps, of the family home; daughters, Marilyn (Byron) Millington , Canon City, and Patricia (Carol) BonDurant, Pueblo; grandchildren, Mike BonDurant, Brenda Scheid, Pam Ervin, Audrey BonDurant, and Jennifer Millington; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Fritz Erps Jr.; his parents; four brothers; and four sisters. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 8, at 11 A.M. at Hope Lutheran Church Westcliffe, with interment at Ula Cemetery, Westcliffe. Those wishing to make contributions to the Hope Lutheran Church Memorial Fund through Wilson Funeral Home.
