Services At Alexandria Wednesday – Twin Brother of Caddo Sheriff Veteran of World War I
Funeral services for William Cannon Flournoy of Alexandria, 53-year old twin brother of Sheriff J. Howell Flournoy, will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Alexandria.
Mr. Flournoy died at Hines Hospital at Chicago, Ill., Sunday after a long illness. The Episcopal minister of Alexandria will officiate and burial will be in the Soldiers' Rest federal cemetery at Alexandria. The Hixon funeral home will be in charge.
Born at Greenwood in 1891, Mr. Flournoy came to Shreveport in 1899 and later worked as a clerk for the V. S. and P. Railroad Company and as a runner for the First National Bank.
He served in the First World War as a captain and made Alexandria his home upon return from service. He was employed as internal revenue collector for the government and later opened his own tax office in Alexandria. He was a member of the American Legion and served as chef de gare of the Forty and Eight.
Survivors, besides Sheriff Flournoy, are: his step-mother, Mrs. J. P. Flournoy, Sr., of Shreveport; two sisters, Miss Margaret Flournoy and Mrs. Meredith Ingersoll of Shreveport; two other brothers, George Flournoy of Houston, Texas and Ted Flournoy of Greenwood; one sister-in-law, Mrs. J. P. Flournoy, Jr., of Shreveport, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
