Eighty-Nine Years Ago.
Mr. William Dupee Lindsey, probably the oldest white citizen of Hopkinsville who was a native of Christian county, died Sunday morning at the residence of his son-in-law on South Virginia street. He was in his eighty-ninth year and death was due to ills incident to his advanced age. For three months he had been confined to his home, and for the past week had been failing rapidly. Mr. Lindsey moved from the county to Hopkinsville when fifteen years of age and learned the saddlery business with the late S. H. Means. He had resided in Hopkinsville most of his life, but was in business at times at Greenville, South Carrolton, Fairview and Princeton. He was a useful citizen and a man of the finest integrity, holding the esteem of all who knew him. Mr. Lindsey was a life-long Christian, and a very devout disciple of the Master. He was a member of the Methodist church, loving its service and constant in his attendance. For a number of years his deafness prevented him from hearing any part of the worship, but, except when illness kept him at home, he was always present at the meetings of the congregation. His devotion to the cause of religion, his exemplary life, his prayers and words of helpfulness were an inspiration to many people. His beloved wife died years ago and he is survived by the following children: Mrs. Minerva Moore, Mrs. Hattie West, and Mrs. Chas. McGinnis, of this city; Messrs. L. T. Lindsey, of Memphis; Clarence A. Lindsey, of Clarksville; and Jos. B. Lindsey, of Dawson.
Funeral services were held this afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Methodist church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Geo. H. Means, and the remains were interred in Riverside cemetery.
