Obituary - Arthur Benton Joyce, Sr. (1931-2010)

Funeral arrangements for Arthur Benton Joyce, Sr., 79, of Corinth, MS are set for 1 p.m. Wednesday at McPeters Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Prentiss Gordon presiding. A graveside service with military honors will follow at Henry Cemetery in Corinth.
Mr. Joyce died Saturday, November 13, 2010, at Northeast Mississippi Medical Center. He was born May 5, 1931, in Eastview, Tennessee. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Corinth.
He was first employed by Berry Motor Company, where he co-oped to put himself through college. After graduating from the University of Tennessee with a a degree in mechanical engineer, he worked for Tyrone Hydraulics , followed by Dana Corp., and Sauer Sundstrand, where he retired as plant manager.
He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps, where he was the youngest company commander in his unit's history. He was a Rotarian, and served on many church and civic committees. He was an entrepreneur, an inventor, an accomplished guitarist, a licensed pilot, and enjoyed golf and bowling. He was a humble and good-hearted man who most enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Hillard Joyce and Ella Mae Hamm Joyce of Ramer, TN.
Mr. Joyce is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jo Ann Huggins Joyce of Corinth; a daughter, Cathy Ann Joyce Boles and her husband Dr. David Boles, Sr. , of Clarksville, TN, and a son, Arthur Benton Joyce, Jr. and his wife Joy Joyce of Corinth. He is also survived by his six grandchildren Erin Joyce, Ben Joyce, David L. (Duke) Boles, Jr. and his wife Amanda Boles, Katie Boles, Daniel Boles, Courtney Boles and two great-grandchildren, as well as his brother Ron Joyce of Huntsville, AL.
Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Corinth, the American Cancer Society , or the charity of one's choice.
