After his wife Lena became ill and was instutionalized in the State Hospital in Provo, Utah, Gottfried remarried Anna Anderson in 1924.
He died December 8, 1936 and was buried at Wasatch Memorial Park Cemetery Salt Lake City on December 12, 1936.
