Larry Coyle, 79, affectionly known as "Smokey", passed at Southern Maine Medical Center. He was born the son of David Cushman and Isadora Douglas Coyle. Raised and educated in New York City, Washington, DC and Cliff Island, graduating from Solebury School in New Hope, PA. He passed up a chance to go to school and become an officer because he suspected it had been arranged by his father, a successful author and influential government official under President Franklin Roosevelt. In fact, Coyle had been a page in the U.S. House of Representatives, something that might have shocked the people who in later years knew him to be a bit coarse. Larry was a veteran of WW II, serving with the U.S. Coast Guard on the USS Bittersweet. He was a member of Arundel Lodge #76 AF & AM.
Larry was predeceased by Millie (Foss) Coyle, married on July 31, 1943 in Cape Porpoise, Maine. Surviving are a son, Justin D. Coyle of Panama City, FL; a daughter, Ericka Fournier of Kennebunkport; a brother, John Coyle of Cliff Island; and two grandsons.
At his request there will be no funeral services. His ashes will be scattered at sea.
