Sarah Dewey was born in Lebanon, CT, May 13, 1759, the daughter of Solomon and Anna (Downer) Dewey. She married, November 8, 1781, in Windsor CT, Asahel Shurtleff, the son of William and Hannah (Cady) Shurtleff. The Shurtleff family moved from CT to Chesterfield, NH in 1787. Asahel died in Swanzey, NH, March 24,1830, Sarah died in Rindge, May 24, 1837, aged 78 years. Five of their eight children became residents of Rindge.
