Bernhard "Bud" Birkholz was born Nov 8, 1915 at Were, MT, the son of Juius and Elizabeth Thorsen Birkholz. At the age of 2 years he moved with his parents to Wilton, Wisconsin, where he was raised, educated and grew to manhood. Bud received Holy Baptism January 16, 1916 at Were and confirmed his Christian faith at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Wilton. Bud was united in marriage to Lucile Wick on Jun 11, 1940, at Wilton where the couple lived for a short time before moving to Larimore in 1946. He was employed by the Johnson Stores in Larimore before taking a civil service position at the Grand Forks Air Base as commissary manager, retiring after 20 years in March, 1980. Bud was active in the Boy Scouts for many years and served as scout master. He also directed the Ground Observers. He had the Hobby Shop and also the Rifle Club. Since his retirement he has been self-employed as a furniture restorer. The couple have continued making their home in Larimore.

Bud passed away on Saturday, May 4, 1985 at United Hospital in Grand Forks at the age of 69 years. Funeral services were held at Our Savior's Lutheran, where he was a member, on May 9, 1985 with interment in Bellevue Cemetery, Larimore, ND. At the time of death he was survived by his wife, one son, one daughter, five grandchildren, his mother and one brother. He was preceded in death by his father.
