THE DAILY TRIBUNE, FLORENCE, FREMONT COUNTY, COLORADO - SATURDAY, MARCH 19, 1904:

DEATH OF A PIONEER

Orville Jones, Highly Respected Citizen, Called Away.

Death came to relieve the suffering of Orville Jones at 9:30 o'clock this morning. Mr. Jones had been suffering with kidney trouble for about a year and a half and got so bad about a couple of weeks ago that he was brought from his home on Hardscrabble to his son's, Clarence Jones, in West Florence, where he could have the necessary medical attention. All was done for the patient sufferer that could be done but the fatal disease had gotten too deep a hold on the victim.
....Deceased was born in Hardin county, Kentucky on July 27, 1840, therefore had he lived until next July would have been 64 years of age. He remained at the place of his birth until 1864 when he removed to Illinois and from there to Missouri. In 1867 he came to Colorado during the gold excitement and located in California Gulch, now Leadville. From there he went to Granite where he followed mining for a time. He finally settled on the Hardscrabble in this county where in 1873 he married to Uretta S. Bruce, who survives him.
....Five children, all boys, were born to this union, four of whom are still living: Clarence of this city; and Alva, Silas and Jesse of the Hardscrabble neighborhood.
....Mr. Jones, therefore, is an old pioneer not only of Fremont county, but of the state of Colorado.
....He was a member of the Masonic order and belonged to the lodge at Canon City.
....The funeral arrangements will not be perfected, pending information from his brothers who reside in the east.
