Retired Minister Dies at Age 72
Athens, Tenn - The Rev. George E. Erwin, retired Methodist minister who held pastorates in McMinn, Bradley and Meigs Counties, died yesterday in an Athens hospital at the age of 72. The funeral will be tomorrow afternoon at Riceville Methodist Church, with the Rev. W. B. Robbins and the Rev. T. M. Bellamy officiating. Burial will be in Calhoun Cemetery. Erwin, who lived in Niota, Tenn., had been in declining health for several months. Survivors include his widow; a daughter, Mrs. Porter Petty of Niota; a grandson, Phillip Petty of Niota; sisters, Mrs John Plant of Chattanooga.
