She married John Elijah McCartney in Gibson County in 1905. To this union were born four children, Roy McCartney, Ernest McCartney, Dennis McCartney, and Fred McCartney. The older two, Roy and Earnest, both died in childhood and were interred at Poplar Springs Cemetery near their paternal grandmother's grave. The younger two, Dennis and Fred, both lived to adulthood, married, and had children of their own.
Etta was a long-time member of Belew's Chapel General Baptist Church south of Skullbone. Upon Etta's death in 1964, she was laid to rest by her husband, John, at Belew's Chapel Cemetery.
