Louisa was born in Casey County, Kentucky to Harvey and Elizabeth (Porter) White.

On the 1860 Census : Harvey 32, Elizabeth 40, Margaret 17, John 14, Matilda 9, Sarah 7, Louisa 3

On the 1870 Census : Harvey 46, Elizabeth 50, Margaret Sinkhorn 26, Matilda Crawley 17, Sarah 15, Louisa 13, Samuel 9, Julius Crawley 26 (Matilda's husband)

On the 1880 Census : Harvey 56, Elizabeth 60, Louisa 22, Carrie Celeste 2, Samuel 18, Lucinda Sinkhorn 17, Martin Sinkhorn 11 (Margaret's kids, she died in 1875)

Lucinda married John Will Deering in 1882, and she died about 1885. John married Louisa in about 1886.

On the 1900 Census : John 44, Louisa 41, Maggie 14, Pearl 12, Lou 11, Lillie 9, Stella 5, Mattie 1. Maggie is John's daughter with his first wife, Lucinda Sinkhorn.

About 1905 : Maggie Jane Deering married Dennis Cox. They went on to have a daughter and four sons. Maggie died of pneumonia in 1934.

On the 1910 Census : John 55, Louisa 54, Lula 21, Stella 16, Mattie 10, Lucy 9

1913 : John Deering dies and Carrie Staton moved to Waverly, Illinois.

On the 1920 Census : Louisa 64, Lula 30, Lucy 18

On the 1930 Census : Louisa 77, Lucy 28, Homer Campbell 39 (Lucy's husband). Homer is a truck driver for a laundry company, Lucy is a seamstress for a garment factory.

1930 : Daughter Carrie died in Waverly, Illinois.

On the 1940 Census : Louisa 87 (widow), Lucille 37 (widow). Lucy is a seamstress for an underwear company.

1942 : Lucy married Elmer Smith

Louisa had 9 daughters (the first one died as an infant), the last six were with husband John Will Deering (1856-1913). Married to John on 13 Jan 1887 in Casey County. Moved to Johnson County, Indiana after John died, sometime between 1914 and 1919. Lived in her later years with her youngest daughter, Lucy.

Daughters : Elizabeth (died as an infant, named for Louisa's mother), Carrie, Mary Francis, Pearl, Lou, Lillie, Stella, Mattie, Lucy.

I would link in husband John, but can't find him. John is probably somewhere in Kentucky (probably Casey County, although maybe Marion County).

And lest anyone get confused, when you see the name Maggie Jane Deering, that's John's daughter with his first wife Lucinda Sinkhorn, who, as it turns out, was Louisa Mae's great-niece. Lucinda's mother was Martha Jane White, Louisa Mae's (much) older sister. Maggie Jane was on the 1900 Census with her dad John Will, step-mom (and great-aunt) Louisa Mae, and half sisters.

There seems to have been a longevity gene floating around in these ladies somewhere. Consider these ages at death : Louisa Mae 92, daughters Mary Francis 91, Pearl 91, and Lucy 103. In the next generation, granddaughter Carrie 93 (Mary Francis' daughter), and granddaughters Myrtle 95 and Laura 97 (Lillian's daughters).

Both Mary Francis and Pearl married Whitehouses, but they weren't brothers or even cousins. They were more like 3rd cousins, although there WERE both from the same cluster of counties in south central Kentucky.
