Leonard died at Oregon Health Sciences University Hospital in Portland following a cerebral hemorrhage.

No public funeral services was held. The family observed private services of remembrance.

Mr. McKay was born May 11, 1922, in Saco, MT, to John Alexander and Viola Chloe (Hills) McKay.

After graduating from high school in Glasgow, he attended Montana State University in Bozeman and worked briefly for the U.S, Geological survey in Fort Peck until moving to Idaho Falls to work as a mechanical engineer for the Atomic Energy Commission.

He married the former Mary Jane Simpson in Great Falls, MT, in 1948.

After 17 years with the AEC, he moved to Anchorage in 1969 to work for Chugach Electric Association, where he worked for 10 years before retiring to Goldendale, WA.

His family said: "Above all else he was devoted to his family. He enoyed the outdoors, particularly hunting, and also was fond of bowling, square dancing, and woodworking projects including building furniture. He also spent time building radio-controlled model airplanes and maintaining motorcycles and a Model T for the Goldendale Shrine Club."

Mr. McKay attended the Methodist Church and was very active in the Masonic orders including being a past master of Goldendale Lodge No. 31, F&AM, a member of the Scottish Rite bodies, past patron of Evergreen Chapter No. 1 Order of the Eastern Star, member of the Masada Shrine, and past president of the Goldendale Shrine Club. He was also a member of the Mid-Columbia Shrine club in The Dalles, OR, and past president of the Alaska Square Dance Federation.

At the time of his death, Leonard was survived by his wife; his son; 3 daughters; his brother, Leslie of Bellingham, WA; his sister, Norma Tuttle of Goldendale; and 5 grandchildren.
