Marcel Mullins, 90, passed away Friday, April 20, 2012, in Arlington.
Marcel was born Nov. 16, 1921 in Blooming Grove, the daughter of Emmitt Lewis Brown and Bertha (Hill) Brown. She joined Northside Baptist Church in 1934 at the age of 12 at a revival service preached by her step-grandfather J. F. Prince. The revival was held at a brush arbor on Commerce St. after which her father Emmitt Brown and a group of other men formed Northside Baptist Church. They purchased a building from the Assembly of God Church and moved it to three acres of land on North Beaton Street donated by the First Baptist Church, the site of the present day church. Both her father and Mother were charter members and he served the church as a Deacon and Sunday School teacher until his death in 1957. His was the first funeral held in what was the new sanctuary that had just been completed.
Marcel married Robert Frazier Mullins of Corsicana Sept. 23, 1939, and they moved to Dallas. After serving in World War II, he was employed by Braniff Airlines until they purchased Lakeview Camp at Lake Whitney in 1953, which they operated until 1963. They moved to Arlington where Mr. Mullins was employed by Dynalectron Corporation until his retirement in 1984, at which time they returned "home" to Corsicana. After his death in 1986, Marcel was a very active member at Northside, serving as Chairman of the Bereavement Committee and Food for Fitness, and volunteered at the Care Center for many years. She was twice nominated as Senior Citizen of the Year for Navarro County.
Survivors include her son, Michael and his wife Jerri of Grand Prairie; daughter, Janet Ward and her husband Jerry of Arlington; three grandsons, Chad Ward of Carrollton, Bret Mullins and his wife Marlo of San Antonio, and Corey Mullins and his wife Melissa of Burnet; one granddaughter, Allison Metcalf and her husband Jeffrey of Frisco. She was blessed with six great-grandchildren, Austin and Holden Mullins of Burnet, Katherine Mullins of Rockdale, Kennedy Kate, Addyson, and Collin Metcalf of Frisco; and one sister, Doris McGaugh of Corsicana; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held prior to the services from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 24, 2012, at Northside Baptist Church in Corsicana.
