Willie personally cared for his wife Helen until her death. He is now survived by his faithful wife Marcella, five adult step-children, a niece Kathy, and 2 nephews in Oklahoma. His wife and new family loved and cared for him faithfully during their years of marriage. Willie was born in Oklahoma. Later he moved to California and upon discharge from the army he spent most of his life in Kern County where he worked in the trucking industry. Willie spent five years serving his country. 511 hours were in combat in the World War II European Theater in which he earned seven battle stars. He was a line sargent also receiving the coveted Bronze Star for his heroic achievement. He participated in the liberation of the Dachau Death Camp. As they arrived that day, many were angered by all they witnessed and wanted to retaliate against the remaining enemy. Willie held his men back saying, we will not become as they are... His conduct that day was typical of the way this man lived his entire life...with great honor and true strength. Willie, you were a genuine hero and a great man. You will be sincerely missed. We were honored to have you as a part of our family. Visitation will be held on Friday April 20, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Hillcrest Mortuary. A military service will be held on Saturday, April 21 at 10 am also at Hillcrest. www.bakersfield.com/obits
