OBITUARY
Jacob H. Ackert

It becomes our painful duty this week to chronicle the death of Jacob H. Ackert, one of our oldest and most esteemed citizens. He was born February 7, 1809, and died on the 15h instant, after an illness of several weeks. He bore his illness with great patience and fortitude. His death was very sudden and without a struggle, and when least expected. During the entire period of his illness he was carefully watched over by his children, his son, Hon. Alfred T. Ackert, of New York, being in constant attendance at his bedside. He became a member of the Wurtemburg Lutheran Church before his marriage, and continued a faithful member thereof during life. He came into this village twenty-seven years since, as a resident; and in all these years attended the ministrations of the Lutheran Church here very regularly, interested himself deeply in its affairs, and will be greatly missed by pastor and people. His remains were interred in the family plot in the Wurtemburg Cemetery. Soon after his marriage, from 1831 to 1936, he conducted a mercantile business in Benner's, now Von der Linden's corner, in co-partnership with David Pultz, father to Charles R. Pultz, now the hardware merchant on the opposite corner. Soon after taking up his final residence in the village, he conducted a grocery store for a short period in co-partnership with his brother-in-law, Philip H. Moore, in the building now occupied by H. N.Secor. He was esteemed and trusted by, and held positions of honor by the suffrages of his fellow townsmen. He married, August 19, 1829, Lydia Maria, daughter of Philip P. Moore and his wife, Anna Maria Ring, born March 4, 1809, by whom je had children; Philip Jacob, born February 5, 1932; Regina Moore, born March 16, 1838; Alfred Theodore, born April 15, 1840; all surviving him.
