Jonathan "John" Henry Campbell was the son of Catharine (Dennison) and Hiram D Campbell, who settled on Bloomer Ranch about 1 mile south of Auburn around 1860.


John married Mary Lavinia Copsey about 1860, after the census was taken. Mary was the daughter of Silas and Elmira (Smith) Copsey of Lower Lake.


Mary and John had two sons, Charles born 17 Jun 1864 and Joseph H born in April 1869.


Mary died just six months later, 27 October 1869.


John married second Mrs. Elizabeth (Coffman) Thurman on 3 September 1870 in Lake County; Elizabeth was the daughter of Eli and Sarah Ann (Asbill) Coffman and the widow of Franklin Thurman.


John died only 4 months later and is buried in his brother James Campbell's plot here at Lower Lake Cemetery; his mother Catharine and oldest sister Margaret are buried at Upper Lake Cemetery.


John and Mary's children were raised by their widowed grandmother Catharine (Dennison) Campbell.
