Elaine Massey Allen returned home to her Heavenly Father from her home in Santa Clara, Utah on April 12, 2012. At her bedside was her beloved husband of 54 years, their three children and a grandson.
She was born to Sarah Frances Murray and William Sewell Massey on September 23, 1937. Elaine lived her first two decades in the Vernal area, marrying Mark Dan Allen on July 26, 1958 in Garden Grove, Calif. Elaine and Mark raised a daughter and two sons while living in Garden Grove for 20 years. They lived an additional 12 years in Corona, Calif., retiring home to Vernal in the fall of 1992. In Nov. of 2010, due to Elaine's health and the desire for a warmer climate, they moved south to Dixie.
Elaine was a natural homemaker, beautifying her surroundings through her many talents including crochet, sewing, cross stitch and home decorating. She completed cosmetology school just out of high school and was a talented hair stylist for many years. In her 40s she managed a bridal shop in Corona.
Elaine served in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints as a counselor in the Garden Grove 2nd Ward Primary and also as a counselor in the Relief Society. She also served as a counselor in the Garden Grove Stake Primary Presidency. In her later years, after retiring to Vernal, Elaine tirelessly volunteered for the American Legion auxiliary.
She was beloved by her family for her devotion to her sweetheart Mark and her nurturing of children and grandchildren. She was a talented cook and baker. Elaine was known by all, including her neighbors and ward members of a few short years for her ready smile, kind words and sincere complements.
Elaine is survived by her husband, Mark, daughter Marlaine, son Brian and daughter in law Alison Allen, and son Brent Allen. Her posterity includes 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren, a sister Barbara T. Allen and many beloved nieces and nephews. Elaine was beloved by all who knew her. Her legacy of family first will live on through her family.
Funeral Services will be conducted Saturday, April 21 at the Maeser 3rd Ward Chapel, 2575 North 1500 West at 11a.m. A viewing will be held Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Ashley Valley Funeral Home and one hour prior to services at the chapel.
